Snooze Momentum

Snow is the most inert state of water, but avalanche is one of the most powerful forces of nature.  In an avalanche, one little snow particle causes other little snow particles to move, which causes more little snow particles to move, which cause even more little snow particles to move, etc. Boom!

When the alarm clock goes off in the morning you have a few choices; ignore it, get up or hit the snooze button. If you actually get up and go to the shower, you’ve started a positive cascade of emotions and triggers.  In your head you’re already thinking, “I’ve got time to eat breakfast, exercise and meditate this morning… this is gonna be great!”  At that moment your brain starts to release the feel-good hormone dopamine and you get different patterns emerging in your brain.  Different parts of your brain come on and those positive internal cycles begin to recruit other positive internal cycles.  You actually begin to feel more awake because more areas of your brain are on!  In turn, elevated levels of dopamine recruit circuits that optimize other neurotransmitters… as you get into the shower, this is already happening.

Because you have enough time to compose yourself without feeling stressed about being on time, your brain tells the adrenal glands on top of your kidneys that you don’t need cortisol.  Less stress, therefore, lower levels of cortisol in your blood over time improve the likelihood that you live longer.  Some think of the word “disease” as DIS ease or NOT at ease.

The downstream effects of one choice can be enormous when you take a cause-effect approach to what is actually happening in your world and in your body because of even seemingly tiny choices.  Perhaps because you were in a better mood, you paid attention to a thought or an observation that changes the course of your life because you were more alert and feeling good.  Maybe if you hit the snooze button and had yet another rushed exit to get to your day, it turned into another day that you are just coping instead of thriving.

Like an avalanche, put all the forces of nature behind your desire to create your best life; letting nothing (not even a snooze button) stop or hinder you.

Have your best day (life).

P.S. Rooibos Tea may be a natural sleep helper.  It is all natural, naturally sweet, caffeine free and antioxidant rich.
